It can be said that the birth of the Beaver County Humane Society
was one of the many rewarding outgrowths of World War II. The first "shelter"
was started in the 40's when Lois Glenn Wolfe began providing shelter to stray and injured
animals in her New Brighton home.
In 1947, a group of Lois' friends became interested
in forming a society. On August 10th, 1950, the Beaver County Humane Society received its
corporate charter as a non-profit, tax exempt, charitable organization. This authorized
the structuring of an animal shelter conducting all such business and activities with
regards to the interests of animals in the state of PA.
